Located on 21,000 square feet in Houstons
Third Ward, this sixteen unit project, consisting of
one and two story buildings, was designed to match the
proportion and volume of existing bungalow and vernacular
style housing prevalent in the Third Ward area. The
project was constructed and will be operated with funds
from HUDs Supportive Housing Program and City
of Houston Housing and Community Development Department.
In addition to the sixteen residential units the development
includes administrative and counseling space, laundry
facilities for the residents, and multipurpose/activity
space for group functions. This supportive housing program
provides temporary housing, counseling, educational
programs, job training, job placement, and day care
for homeless women with children. The development provides
a secure environment for the residents with 24 hour
monitored controlled access. The average resident family
is expected to stay between three and nine months until
permanent safe housing is found. Day care and other
social services will be provided by the Martin Luther
King, Jr. Community Center located across the street
from the development. MCCM provided programming, and
all architectural and engineering design services.
