MCCM Architects, in association with Clark
Condon Associates, provided programming and architectural
and engineering services for the restroom/concession
facilities Allen Station Park. Allen Station Park is
a 109 acre park that follows the meanders of Cottonwood
Creek in the center of the City of Allen and adjoins
a educational complex that will include a new high school
for 2,500 students. The City of Allen and the Allen
Independent School District Board joined together to
plan a combined 300 acre recreational and educational
campus. The restroom/concession facilities serve a five-field
baseball complex and a four-field softball complex that
are part of the first phase of park development at the
north end of the park property. A restroom/concession
building is located in the hub of each complex. Separating
each restroom and concession facility is a roofed pavilion
with a structure of wood trusses that recalls the image
of railroad architecture, a subtle theme that will be
threaded throughout the park and incorporated in future
phases of development. The pavilion provides protection
from the elements and a place for informal gatherings
and other activities where cover is desirable. Included
with each restroom/concession complex is storage for
supplies and equipment used in park and ball field maintenance.
Exterior construction materials consist of brick walls
with stone wainscots and precast concrete lintles which
are compatible with the proposed architectural fenestration
of the adjacent high school facilities.
